In recognizing a need for socially-responsible public spaces and access to public recreational amenities for Abu Dhabi residents, the Tourism Development and Investment Company sought a master plan for two centrally-located public beach facilities. These beach parks are to provide safe, family-friendly opportunities for leisure, recreation and social gathering throughout the day and night. Bathing and swimming, sporting, eating and shopping are to be the primary uses and attractors to the beach parks. Adequate parking shall be provided, but concealed below grade for purposes of security and quality of experience.
Ras Al Akhdar Beach Park is located directly on the Arabian Gulf, and in close proximity to the Emirates Palace Hotel and the Corniche Road. The facilities include beachfront and swimming platforms in the sea; a freshwater pool; shaded zones and an event plaza; football pitch and skate park; a landscaped retail plaza with water features; a signature restaurant situated in the sea, and a water taxi station./p>
The design team was charged with establishing the project program, designing the master plan, creating design guidelines for phased development, and providing strategies for long-term operations and maintenance.
