This 174-guestroom hotel development is an adaptive reuse of an office building constructed in 1920. The building was designed originally by Noerenberg & Johnson and was constructed in the “Beaux Arts” style. Owned by Henry Huntington, the building’s original use was the headquarters for the Los Angeles Railway Company, the streetcar system around which central L.A. was developed.
The Hoxton is a series of open house hotels, an environment for hotel guests and non-guests alike, inspired by the diversity and originality of the streets and scenes that surround them. The intent is to provide a place where guests can hang out alongside the locals and submerse themselves in the neighborhood within vibrant and welcoming public spaces.
Ennismore Design Group contributed the stylish guest room design. The guest rooms draw inspiration from the building’s beaux arts architecture and downtown Los Angeles’ Latino urbanism movements. Wall paneling, chevron flooring and burl timber reveal an additional French influence. Other features include copper and brass details, marble surfaces, zellige-tiled bathrooms and House of Hackney printed textiles.
The hotel grade level features the hotel guest registration, restaurant, and coffee bar in a continuous, open environment. Outdoor dining along South Broadway and an outdoor terrace serving items from the coffee bar provides various gathering options. The second-floor features “The Apartment” – a unique collection of meeting rooms surrounding a pantry and private bar space. The newly constructed rooftop includes a restaurant, outdoor terrace bar, and a swimming pool. The Basement includes a restaurant and bar.
