Overview

The Talbott Hotel – built in 1927 – is one of few remaining European-style boutique hotels in Chicago’s Gold Coast. GREC led the effort for a complete refresh of the property under new ownership. The renovation includes grade level lobby, restaurant and bar, ballroom and conference spaces, and guestrooms updated with new finishes and fixtures. Existing suites were deconverted to standard guestrooms, increasing the number of total keys by 30.

The lobby renovation expands the food and beverage service throughout the space (20 East Restaurant), creating a lively and sophisticated entry environment for restaurant and hotel guests alike. Check-in and concierge desks were relocated to the back of the lobby space, in favor of the restaurant environment.

GREC worked closely with Kara Mann Design to support her stunning modern take on the European hotel environment, including a focus on rich, tactile materials, custom installations and attention to detail. KMD’s approach to the guestrooms was to simplify, favoring a predominantly white palette, with restrained highlights of color and texture in the furniture.
